Senior Woodbridge pitcher Max Montplaisir shut down Irvine, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Warriors Varsity to a 2-0 victory on Friday. The win extended the squad's win streak to six games and has their overall record at 6-2.
Monte struck out 14 and while surrendering only two hits in our Pacific Coast League baseball opener at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.
The Warriors fired up the offense in the second inning when Senior Danny Vasquez drilled an RBI double to center in the second inning, driving in Junior Jack Bunnell who reached on an error. Vasquez struck again with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning scoring Senior Matt Spear who led the inning off with a single.
Montplaisir (1-1 1SV) struck out the side three times, including in the seventh to end the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides as Irvine's own Senior ace, Ryan Barlow allowed only one earned run but surrendered seven hits while striking out five.
